“The oldest club in Swansea”

It is the oldest and certainly one of the best clubs in Swansea. A links course that has tested and beat the best, but don’t be put off – Swansea Bay provides an entertaining round whatever your handicap. Just over a third of the holes run close to the sea, and are demanding even without the wind that often blows in off the bay. Like at St Andrews, the course has a burn crossing through it to further test the golfer’s ability to negotiate a links course with satisfaction.

There are plenty of quirky characteristics on the course; the par four 5th that dog legs towards the green, the long 12th that requires a decision whether to try and carry the stream some 200 yards from the tee and, best of all, the grandstand finish.

Swansea Bay Golf Course is 5 miles east of Swansea, off the A483 (B4290). It is easily accessible from J42 of the M4.

“Overall a really excellent test of golf with its 3 different sections- no easy Par 3s except the 17th (when downwind) – good Par 4s with an element of difficulty in them. The 3rd, 12th and 16th provide the longer hitters with birdie chances but only reward very good golf. When you play it you will see why regularly even in summer with lots of run Par is 72 but Standard scratch is 73.”
