"Wales at best is the most beguiling part of the British isles. Its soaring mountain ranges, plunging battered coastline, calm, lush valleys, and old-fashioned market towns all invite long and repeated visits"

Eating Out Guide
BY SWANSEA VALLEY HOLIDAY COTTAGES

Eating Places in Swansea

PUB GRUB| FISH & CHIPS | INDIAN | CHINESE | PIZZA | OTHER

Want to eat out during your self catering holiday? There are plenty of great places to discover.
Here is our guide to the best of what's on offer, based on our experiences and feedback from our guests (full details of all the places mentioned in this guide are provided in our holiday cottages).

Should you wish to cook for yourself, our cottages have fully equipped kitchens and there is a 24-hour supermarket (Tesco) within five minutes of the farm. Why not try doing some traditional Welsh dishes, using our online Welsh Cookery Guide.

PUB GRUB
We maintain a list of the best pubs in the area to eat at during your holiday. The list contains something for everyone - gastro pubs, child friendly pubs, pubs in beautiful settings, real ale pubs, local pubs and so on.

FISH AND CHIPS
There are two fish and chip shops in Pontardawe, two miles from our self catering cottages – Charlo’s on Herbert Street is very popular with our guests and offers good value for money. Do try the local South Wales speciality - rissole and chips. A rissole is a deep fried ball of seasoned mashed potato and meat, covered in a layer of breadcrumbs! Another great fish and chip shop is Rossi’s, opposite Swansea's Liberty Stadium, not far from Junction 45 of the M4. It is about fifteen minutes away from our cottages and a great place to stop after a day’s sight seeing. The portions are generous and there is an excellent selection of fish, including salmon.

INDIAN
The Welsh, like most British people, are curry mad. Luckily for us, there are two first class Indian restaurants in Pontardawe, just two miles from our holiday cottages. The Indian Cottage and Cardamon, both on Herbert Street, pride themselves in providing innovative Indian cuisine. Their Tawa Tawa Tin Indian BBQ dishes are beautiful and well worth trying if you are a fan of Indian cooking.

CHINESE
There are two Chinese takeaways in Pontardawe, two miles from our holiday cottages. If you are looking to sit down in a restaurant, then you will need to head for Neath, a five mile journey from our cottages where there are a number of good restaurants.

PIZZA
Emma’s Fast Food on Herbert Street, Pontardawe is the nearest place for pizza (or kebab). For a genuine Italian restaurant you will need to travel to Neath (Cafe de Napoli on Windsor Road is great) or Swansea (many to choose from). Neath is five miles from our holiday cottages and Swansea city centre is ten miles away.Mamma’s Pizza Parlour in Swansea, established in 1989, is a local institution. Pizzas are freshly made on the premises. See www.mammaspizzaparlour.co.uk for more info.

OTHER
If you are looking for something a bit different, Swansea has a lot to offer including Spanish, Portraguese, French, Austrian, German, Mediterranean and North African restaurants. Swansea Council has a useful restaurant finder to help you search for restaurants, cafes and country pubs in Swansea Bay, Mumbles and Gower.

In addition, 'Food Passion' publishes a guide to Eating Out in Swansea Bay. It is packed with ideas on where to dine and where to get fresh local produce. Download a FREE copy below, or to save a copy, right click the link and select "Save Target As".
