Drive to the Swansea Valley

ROAD DIRECTIONS AND MAP

 

Swansea valley farm cottage, Bwthyn Y Saer, is easy to reach by road.  Please link to our Location Map and follow the directions below.

  • Leave the M4 motorway at Junction 45, taking the A4067 towards Pontardawe

  • Upon reaching Pontardawe take the A474 towards Neath

  • After about 1 mile, take the left turn-off signposted "Cilybebyll"

  • On reaching T-Junction go straight across into farm drive

The M4 motorway runs between Swansea and London and makes the most dramatic entry into Wales. The Severn Bridge (£4.40 toll) rises high over the mud flats, passing Chepstow, Newport and Cardiff en route to Swansea and the west. The M6, M5, M42 and M50 connect the South Wales area to North and South West England and the Midlands.

Take a ferry to Swansea

FERRY CONNECTIONS FROM EUROPE

Wales has three main ferry ports all serving boats from the Republic of Ireland.  Bwthyn Y Saer holiday cottage is an ideal base for those wishing to tour both Wales and Ireland.  Stena Line operates ferries and high speed catamarans from Fishguard to Rosslare; Irish Ferries runs ferries from Pembroke Dock to Rosslare; Swansea-Cork Ferries run ferries from Swansea to Cork. Ferries from Dublin, and both ferries and high speed catamarans from Dun-Laoghaire (six miles south of Dublin), arrive at Holyhead on the northwest tip of Wales.

Bwthyn Y Saer holiday cottage is located twenty minutes from the port of Swansea and about an hour and a half from both Fishguard and Pembroke Dock. Holyhead port is a five hour drive from Bwthyn Y Saer, through some of Wales's most beautiful scenery. 

Visitors from mainland Europe, arriving at the English Channel ports of Portsmouth, Southampton and Plymouth can expect a three hour drive before arriving at Bwthyn Y Saer in the Swansea Valley.

Fly to Cardiff Airport

CARDIFF WALES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

 

The nearest major airport to Bwthyn Y Saer holiday cottage is Cardiff-Wales International Airport at which scheduled flights arrive from a number of European cities and a few British destinations.  The main international carrier is KLM, which flies into Cardiff from Amsterdam. The other main carrier is Manx Airlines which operates services from Paris, Dublin, Belfast and Edinburgh to Cardiff.  Cardiff Wales International Airport is a 45 minute car drive from the holiday cottage.

Visitors from North America, Australia and New Zealand will need to fly to an airport in England such as London Heathrow or London Gatwick. 

 

By Train

Take the train to Neath

NEATH TRAIN STATION

 

The nearest mainline station is Neath, a 10 minute car journey from Bwthyn Y Saer.  We are happy to collect any visitors to Bwthyn Y Saer from Neath train station.  Neath train station forms part of the fast service South Wales line from London Paddington to Swansea via Reading, Swindon, Bristol, Bath, Newport, and Cardiff. London to Neath by train takes less than 3 hours.

The main coach station is near the centre of Swansea.  National Express Coach services run all over the U.K. offering a good service from a wide range of pick up points and destinations.

Local bus services are good with timetables and routes well integrated.  The nearest bus stop to Bwthyn Y Saer is a 15 minute walk away (approx. 1 mile)
