Cottage Artwork
Y STABL

Our holiday cottages are decorated with Welsh themed artwork. This includes paintings by local artists, historic photographs taken at Plas Farm, antique wood carvings and other interesting curiosities.

ART IN THE KITCHEN
The kitchen in Y Stabl contains a set of three prints that were once part of the Plas Cilybebyll estate art collection. They are names Fresh Strawberries, Potatoes Full Weight and Chairs to Mend. Hanging on the wall above the dining table is a print of Market Day in Wales by Vosper.

ART IN THE LOUNGE
The lounge contains an oil painting of Tintern Abbey that was once part of the Plas Cilybebyll estate collection and a watercolour of a scene in the Plas Farm Woods by local artist Peter Williams. It is based on an old black and white photograph that hangs in the stair well of Y Stabl holiday cottage.

ART IN THE HALL
The hallway contains two religious prints from the Welsh Museum of Life called The Broad and Narrow Way and The Up and Down Lines.

ART IN THE LOO
The downstairs loo has a poster showing the Birds of the Mountain and Woods. Something to help pass time in the loo! Try not to snigger when you see the Latin name for members of the thrush family

ART IN THE STAIR WELL
There are a series of four black and white photographs in the stair well showing scenes of yeasteryear at Plas Farm. The first shows a scene in the Plas Farm woodland and if you look closely, you can see the thatched roof of a summer house, the foundations of which can still be seen from the Plas Farm Trail. The second shows hay making at Plas Farm c.1900. The third picture shows Kilybebyll Lodge and the last one shows a horse that once lived at the farm.

ART ON THE LANDING
The landing wall is decorated with replicas of the medieval earthenware floor tiles of Neath Abbey. Founded in 1130 and famously described as "the fairest abbey in all Wales", Neath Abbey is especially notable for its collection of earthenware floor tiles (some of which now grace the National Museum of Wales). Look for the tiles depicting the famous single combat between Richard the Lionheart and Saladin.
On the opposite side of the corridor, there is a print of a Map of Glamorganshire by Christopher Saxton c.1600.

ART IN THE TWIN BEDROOM
The twin room contains
two prints by 19th century artist Thomas Horner, namely Bow Main and Across the River. Horner was fascinated by the diversity of romantic picturesque scenery in the Neath area and spent much time in the area painting.

ART IN THE DOUBLE BEDROOM
The master bedroom contains three etchings by Samuel and Nathaniel Buck, namely the North West View of Neath Castle, the North East View of Neath Abbey and the East View of Swansea Castle as well as a poster from the Museum of Welsh Life depicting a British warrior and his wife with typical roundhouse.
