Cottage Artwork
TY CERBYD

Our holiday cottages are decorated with Welsh themed artwork. This includes paintings by local artists, historic photographs taken at Plas Farm, antique wood carvings and other interesting curiosities.

ART IN THE KITCHEN
Alongside the door into the kitchen there are two black and white photographs of days gone by at Plas Farm. One shows silage being made in a barn that has long since been knocked down and the other shows one of the fields in front of the holiday cottages being ploughed in the 1960s. Hanging on the wall above the dining table is a print of Market Day in Wales by Vosper.

ART IN THE HALL
The hall contains a large black and white photograph of the farmyard at Plas Farm c.1900. Some of the estate workers are sitting on an old Welsh Gambo. Beneath the stairs is a picture of Ty Cerbyd and Y Stabl holiday cottages c.1971 alongside a picture of the same scene in 1996. At the foot of the stairs is a plaster cast of Celtic Knotwork by Swansea based sculptor Will Sked.

ART IN THE LOO
The downstairs loo has a poster showing the Birds of the Field and Garden. Something to help pass time in the loo! Try not to snigger when you see the Latin name for members of the thrush family.

ART IN THE LOUNGE
There are five pieces of artwork in the lounge. Taking pride of place above the fireplace is an old black and white photograph showing a horse drawn coach and two servants parked in front of Ty Cerbyd holiday cottage c.1900. On the opposite wall is another old picture c.1900 of a lady with two children standing outside the Lodge thatched cottage that once stood at the end of Plas Farm driveway. The room also contains a picture of the mountain behind the cottages, Mynydd Marchywel, by Cardiff based photographer Nick Russill and a picture of the Sunset over Plas Farm. This was taken over the fields in front of the holiday cottages.

ART IN THE STAIR WELL
There are a series of four black and white photographs in the stair well showing scenes of yeasteryear at Plas Farm. The first shows two kittens, Billy and Benji crawling through a pipe. The second shows the weir frozen solid during the Big Freeze of 1963, the third shows a cow hiding from flies amongst the linen on the washing line and the fourth shows a tractor on the courtyard outside the cottages in 1958.

ART ON THE LANDING
The landing wall is decorated with replicas of the medieval earthenware floor tiles of Neath Abbey. Founded in 1130 and famously described as "the fairest abbey in all Wales", Neath Abbey is especially notable for its collection of earthenware floor tiles (some of which now grace the National Museum of Wales). Look for the tiles depicting the famous single combat between Richard the Lionheart and Saladin.

ART IN THE BATHROOM
There are a pair of prints called La Recreation apres Dine in the upstairs bathroom. They came from the art collection of the Plas Cilybebyll Estate when it was sold in the 1950s.

ART IN THE TWIN BEDROOM
There is a print on the wall in the twin bedroom called The Mosque at Omar. It came from the art collection of the Plas Cilybebyll estate when it was sold in the 1950s.
