Cottage Artwork
BWTHYN Y SAER

Bwthyn Y Saer holiday accommodation is decorated with Welsh themed artwork. This includes paintings by local artists, historic photographs taken at Plas Farm, antique wood carvings and other interesting curiosities.

ART IN THE KITCHEN
At the entrance to the kitchen is an old black and white picture of Bwthyn Y Saer, taken around 1900. You will notice that it was originally a two storey building.

ART IN THE HALL
On the right hand wall, as you enter the holiday cottage, is a collection of six old black and white photographs showing Plas Farm in Days Gone By. They were taken at the beginning of the last century (c. 1900). There is also a wood carving and a pair of traditional brass plates in the hallway.

ART IN THE LOUNGE
The lounge walls are decorated with five pieces of art. There are two watercolours by local artist Jeffrey Lloyd (once owner of the Plas Cilybebyll estate house) of Cilybebyll Church and Alltwen Chapel. Above the television, hangs a black and white picture taken of the Plas Cilybebyll Weir During the 'Big Freeze' of 1963 when it froze from Boxing Day 1962 until early March 1963, making it the most severe winter at the farm for over 250 years. On the wall overlooking the dining table is a poster from the Welsh Museum of Life which illustrates the 28 letters that make up the Welsh Alphabet. The fifth piece of art is a print of Vosper's classic painting, Salem. This painting hangs in many houses across Wales and has an holds an amazing secret.

ART IN THE TWIN BEDROOM
The twin bedroom has one piece of art on each wall. To the left of the door is a black and white print of The Lodge in Cilybebyll. The Lodge was once a thatched cottage (it burnt down) situated at the entrance driveway to the Plas Cilybebyll estate (and the holiday cottages). On the right hand bed is a watercolour of Bwthyn Y Saer holiday cottage by local artist Jeffery Lloyd. Hanging above the bed is a print entitled The Soul's Awakening. We are not sure who it is by, but it was originally in the possession of the Plas Cilybebyll Estate. The fourth wall has a mounted presentation pack of special edition Royal Mail Welsh stamps.

ART IN THE DOUBLE BEDROOM
In the double bedroom you will find one of Frank Brangwyn's British Empire Panels, A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas and two old pictures taken at Plas Farm. One shows a scene c.1900 of the inhabitants of the Plas estate raking hay in one of the fields outside the holiday cottages. The other is a picture taken in the 1970s of the waterwheel that was once mounted on the side of Bwthyn Y Saer and used to power the carpenter's tools as well as a turnip pulper!
