Welcome to www.walescottages.com
- all our holiday cottages are WiFi enabled and Wales Tourist Board
accredited. Our guests are free to take advantage of our broadband
wireless internet network at no extra cost – the accommodation
is in a wireless hotspot!
Is it really free?
Yes, access to our wireless broadband internet network
is totally free. These days, accommodation without wi-fi is as inconceivable
as one without electricity. Whilst the majority of hotels and guesthouses
charge exorbitant fees for access, we at Swansea Valley Holiday
Cottages believe in free and unlimited access for all our guests.
This represents a significant saving for business
travellers who stay at our holiday cottages, not to mention
holiday makers who want to check out local attractions and keep
up to date with their emails during their stay.
What equipment will I need?
Our guests require a wireless (wi-fi) enabled laptop computer.
All intel Centrino based PCs and Apple Powerbooks will work. If
your laptop is not wireless enabled, we do have a USB adapter that
can be borrowed. However, we cannot guarantee it will work with
your particular set up. There is also a PC World 10 mins down the
valley if you would like to buy any computer equipment during your
stay in south Wales.
Is there a password?
Yes there is. The network is secure and you will be provided
with a password to access the internet on arrival at our holiday
cottages.
Is there good wireless coverage?
Yes there is. Anyone who has set up a wireless network
in their own home will be aware of the problems in getting good
coverage. Despite giving a theoretical maximum range of 100 metres,
the typical wireless access point blankets an area considerably
smaller than that because of a building’s construction and
interference from other devices that use the same part of the radio
spectrum, such as microwave ovens, cordless phones and Bluetooth
gadgets. That is why we at Walescottages.com have invested in state
of the art wireless hardware including directional antennas and
signal boosters to ensure an excellent signal in every room in every
cottage, not to mention good coverage in the grounds around the
cottages.
Where can we
surf the net?
The wireless network covers the area around the
holiday cottages as well as inside the cottages. This means that
on a sunny day, you may wish to sit outside, under one of the huge
beach trees and surf the net. Or why not sit at the table on the
river bank and pick up your emails to the sound of a babbling mountain
stream and birdsong – the farm will be your office for the
length of your stay.
Is there mobile phone coverage at the
farm?
Yes there is. Some places are better than others due to
the thick walls of the cottages. However, all the main networks
work well – Orange, 3, Vodafone, Virgin and O2.
