Founder Richard Glynn Vivian’s
original collection forms the backbone of this gallery’s
display. The gallery itself is in a beautiful Italian-style building
in Swansea city. Glynn Vivian’s collection includes work
by old masters and an international collection of porcelain and
Swansea china.
The 20th Century is also well represented with
modern painting and sculpture by Hepworth, Nicholson and Nash,
with other Welsh artists such as Ceri Richards, Gwen John and
Augustus John.
There is an art shop stocking recent publications
on contemporary art, photography, applied art, architecture, fashion
and design and art history and theory alongside art books, magazines,
greetings cards and postcards.
The gallery presents a lively exhibitions programme
– featuring mostly contemporary art. Past shows include
Welsh artists, Terry Setch, David Nash, Philippa Lawrence, Jenny
Savage and historical shows have included ten drawings by Leonardo
da Vinci from the Royal Collection, and a centenary celebration
of Swansea artist, Ceri Richards.
