“Death or Glory”

In 1904 a local group of golfers loved the game so much they decided to create their own course. And Langland Bay Golf club was born. The result is a magnificent mixture of lush parkland and seaside links, so those who like a bit of both will likely fall in love. One of several popular Gower Peninsular courses, it boasts all the good fortune of natural beauty, built in the designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with excellent views from every hole. The 6th hole has views of Caswell Bay, Pwlldu, and Brandy Cove. Even Lundy can be seen on a clear, fair day. Interesting course features are the sandy ball-attracting bunkers and small, hard-to-reach greens. This is a course of opposites.

Close attention is essential with lots of rough, lots of sand traps, tricky greens, small greens, fast greens and hideous hazards - with the 6th hole notorious for being the Gower coast’s toughest hole. It is an uphill trek into the prevailing wind and a mighty par four. Equally testing is the 8th – thread your way to the sanctuary of the green along a fearsome fairway on the edge of Caswell Bay. The well-named Death or Glory 16th is a short hole, but needs the correct club hit in the right direction with the correct distance to gain anything from this sadistically designed hole, or else it is the death of any promising scorecard.

The clubhouse was refurbished in 2003 ready for the centenary celebrations.
