“A beautiful championship course on the Gower Peninsula”

After hosting the Welsh Professional Championship in 1990 and 1991 Fairwood became a popular ”˜must play’ course. The mostly flat ground allows for attacking play, with no surprise uphill or downhill treks. Although not a short course, Fairwood is ideal for golfers with walking difficulties with the parkland ground pleasantly contoured with wide-open fairways and a number of lakes, introduced recently to catch errant balls. The club has also planted some 10,000 trees.

Relatively unknown even to many Welsh golfers before the first Championship was held there in 1990, Fairwood gained prominence quickly after the huge media coverage and accompanying sunshine attracted many spectators. The clubhouse, a former RAF hospital during World War II, welcomes visitors, and the 135 acre course has an extensive practice area, with nets, a practice bunker, green, and an excellent putting area.

Fairwood Golf Course is easy to locate, off Blackhills Lane in Upper Killay opposite Swansea Airport.
